March 2018 marks the 70th anniversary of one of Australia’s most-loved homes magazines, Australian House & Garden, with a celebratory edition hitting the stands on Monday March 5.
Founded in 1948, this trusted magazine has played a meaningful role in the lives of passionate homemakers, serving up endless inspiration for generations.
Fiorella Di Santo, Bauer Media’s General Manager – Publishing said: “Australian House & Garden has maintained a passionate, highly-engaged readership for the past 70 years and that is
something we are celebrating proudly. House & Garden is one of Bauer Media’s flagship brands and we will continue to grow the magazine, as one of Australia’s most-recognised and loved
Australian homes titles.”
Occupying a special place in Australian homes for generations, every issue of Australian House & Garden showcases beautiful homes and inspiring gardens, highlighting good design ideas and
sharing expert tips. Practical decorating and renovation advice, recipes for home entertaining and columns on design and sustainable living choices are other key content pillars.
“Australian House & Garden has led the discussion on home design for the past seven decades, and we are both proud and excited to celebrate this impressive milestone with our readers,” says
editor in chief Lisa Green. “Our 70th birthday edition will see us reflect on past inspiration and aspirations, all the while looking to the future of Australian home life.
“It’s an absolute honour to edit this heritage Australian title. Upholding its tradition of inspiring and informing each new generation of home makers is a responsibility I’ve cherished and one relished by the whole H&G team,” says Green, editor since 2006.
“House & Garden’s role in charting Australia’s design history is significant – and we are determined to celebrate this milestone in a fitting manner. This year H&G will complete our very own home
build – My Ideal House – continuing a conversation about the right type of housing for our times that began when the magazine launched in 1948. ”
The magazine’s archives are a veritable treasure trove, chronicling Australia’s social and architectural history and observing every major housing, gardening and interiors trend over the
ensuing decades. H&G introduced architecture and design talents such as Robin Boyd, Syd Ancher, Harry Seidler, Grant Featherston and Marion Hall Best to the Australian public. The
magazine continues to champion local talent and to hold a mirror to contemporary Australian life.
House & Garden leads its category and is among Australia’s Top 10 most-read titles. The magazine will kick off celebrations on March 1, with an event at The Mint, Sydney.
